Artist Andy Goldsworthty: How to Create Art from Nature

Artist Andy Goldsworthy is one of those artist I can’t believe I didn’t know about until recently. What he does is unique and amazing to see. He creates artwork from what he finds at a specific place in nature. He creates the work on-site. He doesn’t just use bits of nature from all over, or take his “ingredients” home to create.

About Andy Goldsworthy from his website:

Using a seemingly endless range of natural materials—snow, ice, leaves, bark, rock, clay, stones, feathers petals, twigs—he creates outdoor sculpture that manifests, however fleeting, a sympathetic contact with the natural world. Before they disappear, or as they disappear, Goldsworthy records his work in suburb color photographs.

Check out some of these awesome photos of Goldsworthy’s work. Also make sure to check the clip from “Rivers and Tides,” a documentary about Goldsworthy, below.

Inspiration: Brains!

(This is especially inspirational if you’re a zombie.)

Wired.com has an article up with amazing images of the brain through history. These are such cool images. I love scientific photos like these. I’ve got a particularly weak spot for great space photos.

Just in general, the organization, pattern, and structure in the universe and our bodies just amazes me. It’s one of the things that convinces me daily that we are not here by accident.

The images are from a new book, Portraits of the Mind. I’m going to have to check this book out. Make sure you check out all of the photos in the Wired article.
